He’s not making the call just yet, but Tony La Russa said Jimmy Lambert is likely to get the nod again the next time Lucas Giolito’s turn comes up in the rotation.

Lambert, who is still ramping up, said he was allotted 50 pitches on Thursday, and wound up throwing 49 over three innings.

After being the subject of a fawning article in The Athletic, the Sox offense was held to four singles (two of which left the infield). They scored their one run in amusingly wind-aided fashion. On a quasi-bullpen day where starter Jimmy Lambert was limited to three innings, this was not quite enough run support.

Tony La Russa said Josh Harrison "should play sometime this weekend," after leaving Wednesday's game with back stiffness.

Yasmani Grandal is sitting for a Thursday day game after a wet and delayed night game Wednesday. Grandal and La Russa said they have to manage his workload after two knee surgeries in 2021, but he is expected to start behind the plate on Friday.

Eloy Jiménez said he couldn't walk for a bit Wednesday night as his ankle started to swell. But after treatment, he said he's available to pinch hit on Thursday and hopes to play this weekend.

"It was good because I'm tired of that, being hurt," said Jiménez.

Reese Johnson said he, his girlfriend and dog have been living with Jonathan Toews. Johnson joked there’s probably been too much dog hair for Toews’ liking.

Jonathan Toews said he’d like to have more communication with Kyle Davidson and the coaching staff to just hear their honest opinion of what they expect from him as team captain.
